Can IDD help with Chronic neck pain, cervical herniated/slipped discs in the neck ?

Can IDD help with chronic neck pain and cervical herniated/slipped discs?

Are you dealing with chronic neck pain or a cervical herniated/slipped disc and wondering if IDD Therapy can help? You’re in the right place.

Below I explain what’s going on in the neck, the symptoms IDD can help, and how the treatment actually works.

Why discs in the neck cause so many symptoms

I like to explain a disc using the water-balloon / car-tyre idea. When a disc loses internal pressure, it can bulge into the small spaces where the neck nerves run. Those nerves are very sensitive, so compression or irritation can cause much more than “just neck ache.” Find out more about Herniated disc solutions

Common cervical disc symptoms I see:

  • Neck pain that can be sharp or nagging

  • Pain around the shoulder blade (very common with cervical disc injuries)

  • Pain down the arm (cervical radiculopathy / “sciatica of the arm”)

  • Tingling, pins & needles, burning or numbness into the shoulder, forearm, hand or fingers

  • Loss of grip or “power” (e.g., difficulty opening jars or holding items)

  • Headaches at the base of the skull in some cases

  • Worse with sitting, screens, driving or certain head positions

Effective Treatment for your cervical disc injury

When you feel like you've tried everything else like Physio, Osteopathy, massage or exercises then a more targeted treatment, IDD therapy, may be your next right thing.

What IDD Therapy is (in plain English)

IDD stands for Intervertebral Disc Decompression. It’s a non-surgical, computer-controlled treatment specifically designed for disc problems and nerve pain.

You lie comfortably supported on the table while I select the exact neck level (from your assessment/MRI) to treat. The system then:

  1. Gently decompresses the level – a precise stretch that reduces pressure inside the disc and takes pressure off the nerve.

  2. Adds oscillation (a therapeutic “wiggle”) – this helps draw fluid and nutrients back into the disc (think: pumping up a tyre).

  3. Creates space to settle the nerve – with pressure lowered and fluid moving, irritated nerve tissue has a chance to calm.

Because discs and nerves heal gradually, IDD is delivered as a course of care. Find out more how IDD therapy works

Symptoms IDD Therapy can help in the neck

  • Neck and shoulder-blade pain linked to a disc bulge/herniation

  • Arm pain tracking a nerve pattern (C5–C8)

  • Tingling, pins & needles, burning, or numbness into the arm/hand

  • Weakness or lost grip strength from nerve irritation

  • Stiffness, “catching,” or protective spasm around the neck/shoulder

Short version: decompress the level → re-hydrate the disc → calm the nerve—to relieve your symptoms.

Is it safe—and am I a good candidate?

IDD Therapy is non-invasive and well-tolerated for many people with MRI-confirmed cervical disc problems. I always screen first (exam + MRI ) because some situations—severe instability, recent surgery involving metal implants, pregnancy, or if you have a pacemaker - may need a different route or a consultant opinion. Find out more how IDD therapy works

What you can expect over a course of care

  • Less neck/shoulder-blade pain and calmer arm symptoms

  • Improved comfort with sitting, screens and driving

  • Better confidence turning/tilting the head

  • Often, reduced reliance on painkillers as things settle
